Olive Smith Greenlund, age 79 of Pierson passed away Tuesday morning, September 6, 2011 at her residence. 

She was born in DeLand, Florida on October 3, 1931 and was a lifetime resident of West Volusia County. Olive was a graduate of DeLand High School, class of 1949, Stetson University with a B.A. in education in 1954 and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was an elementary school teacher for 19 years in Volusia County and a member of the West Volusia and Florida Retired Educators Association. 

Olive was a charter member of Community Christian Assembly Church of Pierson. During her life, family and church were always at the center of her love and passion. Olive was preceded in death by her husband, O. Freeman Greenlund, Jr. in 2010. 

She is survived by son Robert Greenlund and his wife Kelly of Pierson; daughters Kathryn Dixon and husband Lamar of Pierson and Lisa Lungren and husband Claude of DeLeon Springs; brother Walter Smith of DeLand; sisters Donna Carlson of Westlake, Louisiana and Mary Kilburn of New Smyrna Beach; sisters-in-law Lois Taylor of Pierson and Rose Smith of DeLand; 11 grandchildren Brian, Greg, Ashley, Lindsey, Neal, Erik, Camaron, Shelby, Michael, Mitchell and Kendall and 8 great-grandchildren Lawton, Lindon, Hannah, Haley, Hayden, MacKenzie, Madilyn, and Ashton. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 9 from 5-8pm at the Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home in DeLand. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11am at the Community Christian Assembly Church of Pierson with Reverend Max Tyus officiating. Interment will follow at the Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery in Pierson. 

Pallbearers will be Brian Dixon, Greg Dixon, Michael Kolehmainen, Mitchell Kolehmainen, Neal Greenlund, Erik Greenlund, Camaron Greenlund, Ryan Worden and Daniel Waldrop.
